Position

A Sheet Metal Fabricator will be required to fabricate, install and repair sheet metal products. Work will involve the operation of fabrication and welding machinery and hand tools to cut, bend, join, straighten and assemble sheet metal

Role & Responsibilities

Perform journeyman level fabrication, installation and repair of sheet metal products and work with minimal supervision.

Determine project requirements, including scope, sequences, equipment and methods according to blueprints, drawings and written or verbal instructions.

Provide technical guidance and direction to lower level personnel

Inspect parts, products for conformance to specification using appropriate measuring equipment.

Read, understand and work according to company policies and procedures and supervisor instructions.

Develop and layout patterns that use materials most efficiently.

Layout, measure and mark dimensions and reference lines on material, using calculators, scribes, dividers, squares, rulers, etc.

Select gauges and types of sheet metal or non-metallic materials according to product specification

Fabricate products using shear, saw, notching, bending, drilling, punching, automated cutting equipment.

Shape metals over anvils, blocks or other forms using hand tools.

Fasten parts, seams, joints together with TIG/MIG welds, bolts, rivets caulks, metal drive clips and bonds.

Trim, file, grind, deburr, buff, and smooth surfaces, seams and joints of assembled parts, using hand tools and portable power tools.

Develop and fabricate jigs/fixtures to aid other personnel and enhance work performance.

Perform daily safety checks and maintain equipment in good working order

Maintain good housekeeping practices within the work area and return all unused parts to inventory

Identify materials with job number

Maintain good material handling and storage practices

On a daily basis, record hours worked against project work number

Work in a manner which meets production schedules and budgets

Wear safety equipment and work in safe manner at all times

Perform and complete all inspections/testing and documentation

Perform other duties as and when required and make corrections as required.

Education

Completion of high school diploma or equivalent.

Completion of certificate or diploma in metal fabrication

Experience

5-7 years concurrent sheet metal experience

Knowledge of raw materials, production processes, quality control, costs and other techniques for maximizing the effective manufacture of products.

Perform an acceptable TIG/MIG weld test
